The Vintage Jazzmen of Paris
I didn't get the lineup for this band. The singer was Tori Robinson.
The guy on the right is Bart Nassberg, a friend
I met at Jazzfest a couple of years ago.
Troy Andrews
Troy Andrews appeared as a substitute for his brother James, who
was
ill. Troy is also known as Trombone Shorty because he first started
playing trombone when he was so small the slide would hit the ground. I
think he was about 21 years old when he appeared at Jazzfest this year.
He's a great up-and-coming talent.
Troy Andrews trumpet - trombone; Mark Brooks piano; Jamal Baptiste
drums; Karen ? vocal
This woman is a professional artist who comes to Jazzfest every
year and does instant watercolor impressions of the performers.
Bob French and the Original Tuxedo Jazz Band
Bob French drums; Chris Severin bass; David Torkanowsky piano; Troy
Andrews trombone - trumpet; Clarence Johnson III tenor sax - soprano
sax; Wendell Brunious trumpet - flugelhorn; Ellen Smith vocal
Louisiana Repertory Jazz Ensemble
This band is devoted to recreating the sounds of the original bands
from the teens and twenties, like the New Orleans Rhythm Kings, King
Oliver's Creole Jazz Band and Jelly Roll Morton's Red Hot Peppers. I
collect this type of music on 78 RPM records and can say that, to my
ear, the Louisiana Repertory Jazz Ensemble does a very good job of
capturing the sound and spirit of the originals.
Fred Lonzo trombone; Charlie Fordella trumpet; Jacques Gauthé
clarinet - soprano sax; Neil ? banjo - vocal; David Bodinghouse piano;
Walter Payton bass - vocal; John Joyce drums - leader
New Leviathan Oriental Foxtrot Orchestra
This orchestra recreates the dance and novelty music of the teens
and
twenties. Many of its members are doctors, and they introduced one as
"The Fiddling Pathologist." Unfortunately, I didn't get the lineup for
this orchestra - the leader rattled off the names so quickly I couldn't
write them down.
That's a theremin he's playing.
Carrie Smith
Unfortunately this set was cut short because a big storm was
approaching, and they wanted to clear out the fairgrounds before things
got too bad.
Carrie Smith vocal; Wendell Brunious trumpet; Malrick ? tenor sax -
alto sax; Norman Simmons piano; ? Gehring bass; Bungee Johnson drums
